| How to light an island when there is a pot rack above it |
When there is a pot rack above the island in a kitchen it presents a bit of a
lighting challenge. There are some pot racks that have lights incorporated into
them.

The above pot rack or ones similar are the easiest solution. They will
not however fit every style. If you are using a contemporary style pot
rack such as stianless steel, a monorail track may be the solution. By
hanging the track to almost the bottom level of the rack on two side, the
lights can then be directed towards the counter top. See the illustrations
below.

The monorail track in this diagram would be suspended from the ceiling
so that the proper angle to provide light to the counter can be achieved.

This is just one example. There are a few companies who make similar
type track systems. One is TechLighting and another is Pegasus.
If you use this type of lighting it must be carefully thought out so the lights will not
be too close as to be damaged by using the pot rack. Careful planning however
could provide you with a very distinct and wonderful look in your new kitchen.
